Mourning

Amelia and Oliver's angst.....this is where it comes from D:

Their separation was all because Amelia was in the wrong place and the wrong time. After getting up to get a glass of water in the night, Amelia came across a woman rummaging through her father's study. The woman, who'd been working as a maid in order to infiltrate Dallace's home and bring back documents to Griphon(revolutionary), caught Amelia looking in on her and panicked. She drugged Amelia with Somni to keep her quiet, and in a fit of fear she kidnapped the girl, justifying that she couldn't leave a child with such a "moster"(how she viewed Dallace). Along with an armful of documents she delivered Amelia to Griphon, who became furious at the idea that, not only did the enemy have children, but they had now kidnapped one of them. When Amelia awoke from the somni-induced coma her memory was foggy. She couldn't remember being kidnapped, she couldn't remember if Monday or the alias her father had told her to use, Morrow, was her true surname. The drug, meant to subdue criminals, had scrambled her thoughts, and Griphon used this to his advantage. He told her that her family was dead, and that they had just been able to save her. She didn't believe them, for months she didn't believe them, but as she became closer with her caregivers and continued to be told the same story of what had happened over and over she slowly began to accept it as a truth, or at least to their faces. There was one problem with their story and only one: on occasion, Amelia would get the feeling that Oliver was still alive. And Oliver, back home with their father, would get the same fleeting feeling as well. But that doesn't mean they didn't mourn the loss of their twin.

One day, a year after she was kidnapped and was taken into Dovide's care (Dovide is Katherine's father and Griphon's good friend) Amelia looked in the mirror and started to think of how much she and Oliver looked alike. Out of anger, sadness or frustration (not even she could tell you which it was) she took a pair of scissors to her hair, trying to cut it short like Oliver's.

The last thing Amelia asked Oliver to do was to watch their plush rabbit, Sedgewick, while she went to get a drink of water. When Amelia didn't come back Sedgewick became a high priority in Oliver's eyes. He knew it was silly, but he can't bring himself to forget the request, even years after the fact.
